Hi Alexandra,

It has not been easy writing on LGBTQ issues as it relates to Christianity, because of the antagonism toward Christians and the sanctimonious attitude (real and perceived) that Christians tend to manifest when talking about the issue. That said, I often wonder what we would say to the Lord when we stand before Him, not having addressed the issue in specific terms, whereas, we addressed the issues of prostitution, fornication, adultery, and such like.

It is obvious that there is nothing like a little sin or a big sin. Sin is sin! God frowns at greed as much as He frowns at lying, and even much more at hypocrisy. The Bible says, “A little leaven leavens the whole lump” (Galatians 5:9; 1 Corinthians 5:6). To say that one is a Christian and then gloat over being gay, lesbian, etc., is to say that I am a Christian and a thief, and there is nothing wrong with that!

It is one thing to be gay, lesbian, or any of the other sexual preferences that people profess, and I cannot hold that against anyone (after all we all have the sin-genes in us all and are given to sinning, that is, before salvation and sanctification), but it is a completely different thing to claim that one is a Christian and yet is engaged in such a sinful lifestyle. This is the crux of my article. I am hoping to let those who obviously desire a relationship with the Lord know that they would need to come clean about their lifestyle and be ready to turn away from it if they want to hold on to the Lord!

To be candid, I think Christians have not been able to articulate the gospel message without sounding condemning. I liken the situation to trying to get a friend’s attention in a frenzied fire that’s consuming everything, and that’s heading his/her way. It is obvious that political correctness will be the last thing on a rescuer’s mind; rather, it would be getting the victim, anyhow, away from the fire. This is what this article is trying to do — get the attention of those who say that they are Christians and yet are living a gay-lesbian lifestyle.

I hope my answer helps. Please pardon me if I came across as aggressive — it is never the intention!
